Community engagement
Local community invited to vote for preferred playground.
Jim Ainsworth Reserve in Ardross is set to undergo a park and playground renewal, and we asked you to vote to help decide the new playground design.
Three design options were presented during engagement, each featuring upgraded play equipment. Community input informed the selection of the final layout and overall design to better meet the needs of local families and park users.
In addition to the new playground, the park upgrade will include nature play elements, a swing, improved path connections, mulching, and enhanced bushland planting to support a more natural and welcoming environment.

We provided three creative playground designs to vote on, each packed with unique play elements and imaginative features. From adventurous climbing structures to spaces that spark creativity and connection, every design aims to bring fun and activity to the community.

The hierarchy of parks within the City reflect state documentation/strategies. These classifications are based on the number of anticipated visitors and the distance they are drawn from:
- District parks - people will attend from over two kilometres
- Neighbourhood parks - residents from 800 metres
- Local parks - residents from approximately 400 metres
- Pocket parks - incidental green spaces around the City.
The distribution of district, neighbourhood and local parks allows us to have a balanced level of the quality of space across the City.
To ensure the upgrades meets local needs, we asked you to help choose the best design. Engaging with the community is key to building a sense of pride and ownership.
The City met informally with local residents at the park to listen to their concerns and suggestions regarding park maintenance and improvements. As a result, the City has scheduled irrigation maintenance works.
This project is being funded as part of the City’s capital works program and was approved in the 2025/26 budget. It should be noted that the budget for this project is limited.
