How to Use the Library Catalogue
To search the catalogue, enter a title, author, or subject into the search bar and click SEARCH.
You can refine your search by:
- Using the drop-down menus to the left of the search bar to narrow your search
- Selecting Advanced Search for more specific searching options
- Using the Limit Search Results filters found on the left-hand side of the results page
If you're a member of City of Melville Libraries, click Log In at the top of your screen and enter your library card number and PIN.
You can search the catalogue without logging in, but you'll need to log in if you want to:
- Place holds
- Manage your loans
- Download eBooks and eAudiobooks
- View your account details
If you're not a library member and are aged 16 or over, you can join online.
Joining online allows you to start placing holds straight away. To borrow physical items and access our online eLibrary, you'll need to complete your membership by visiting one of our libraries within 30 days to show your current ID, sign our membership register, and collect your library card.
Click My Account at the top of your screen to:
- View and manage your holds
- See your current loans and due dates
- Renew eligible items
- See your check out history
My Lists allows you to save items you'd like to borrow in future.
To create a list:
- Log in and select My Lists at the top of the screen
- Click the Add List icon:

- Enter a name for your list and select Create
To add items from the catalogue:
- Click the item's title
- Select Add to my lists from the Actions drop-down menu
Please note: Items removed from our collection will no longer appear in your lists.
To request an item, click its Place Hold button. You'll be prompted to:
- Select your preferred pickup library (for physical items)
- Review the item format (for digital items)
Select Place Hold(s) to confirm your reservation.
When the item is available, you'll be notified via email, SMS, or app notification, depending on your preferences.
FAQs
Physical items can be renewed up to two times, unless they've been requested by another library member. Eligible items will automatically renew on their due date.
If you prefer to renew items manually:
- Go to My Account
- Select the Checkouts tab
- Select the item(s) you'd like to renew
- Click Renew
Renewals extend the loan period by three weeks from the date of renewal.
Digital loans may be renewed using the platform used to borrow them.
- Digital Checkouts shows your current digital loans, such as eBooks and eAudiobooks.
- Library Checkouts shows the physical items you currently have on loan, such as books, DVDs, and magazines.
eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines display in the catalogue search results alongside physical library items.
- If available, click Download to borrow immediately
- If all copies are in use, click Place Hold to join the waiting list
You can also borrow digital items directly through the provider’s app or website. Visit our eLibrary page for more information.
You can get a rough idea of wait times by checking your place in the hold queue. To do this, go to My Account and select the Holds tab.

To manage your requests:
- Log in and select My Account at the top of the screen
- Select the Holds tab
- Tick the checkbox to the left of the hold(s) that you wish to cancel or suspend, and then click Cancel Hold(s) or Edit/Suspend Hold(s).
Tip: When suspending holds, make sure to enter an end date or your hold will be suspended indefinitely.

If you've searched our catalogue and can't find what you're looking for, make an interlibrary loan request and we'll try to source it for you.
You can reset your PIN online, or contact us for help.
Please visit any of our branches in-person to organise a replacement card. You will need to show your current ID.
If the catalogue is not working properly, please check that your browser is up to date. We recommend using Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.

Interlibrary Loan Request
If you are unable to locate the item that you are looking for in our Library Catalogue we may be able to obtain it from another library for you. Items requested take at least one week to arrive, but for extremely popular titles they may take significantly longer.
Please note: You can only request items that are over 12 months old and we can only get DVD titles that are part of a series.
