Project Information
Upgrade works at Ric Vosper Reserve are now underway, with completion expected by the end of November 2025. These improvements followed a thorough two-stage community engagement process.
Stage 1 – Community Survey (Completed July 2024)
Local residents and park users were invited to participate in an online survey to share how they use the park and suggest priority improvements. Feedback on preferred play equipment was also gathered. This input directly shaped the concept plan, ensuring the proposed upgrades reflect community needs and expectations.
Stage 2 – Concept Plan Consultation (Completed December 2024)
The draft concept plan was presented to the community for feedback. Key proposed upgrades focused on revitalising the eastern side of the reserve and included:
- A relocated and enhanced playground
- A learn-to-ride track with interactive and imaginative elements
- A new gazebo and picnic table
- A renewed and expanded basketball court
For more information on the engagement process and results please visit our MelvilleTalks page.
These upgrades aim to create a safer, more engaging, and family-friendly environment. The learn-to-ride track is designed to help young cyclists and scooter riders build confidence and develop essential riding skills through playful, educational features.
The western side of the park will remain an open lawn area for general recreation and dog exercise.
Community Feedback Summary:
- 65% of respondents said they loved or liked the plan
- 19% said they could live with it
- 16% did not support the plan
- Participants also voted on playground equipment options and the preferred location for the new gazebo.
Based on this feedback, several minor modifications were made to the concept plan, including:
- Two shelters (one on each side of the park)
- A BBQ facility
- Additional picnic tables
- A fence running north-south along the existing path, on the eastern side (playground).
The fence:
- Provides separation between the play space/learn-to-ride track and the western side of the park
- Keeps access open (no gates), maintaining permeability and accessibility, while still allowing gates to be added later if required
- Includes signage at each entrance recommending that dogs be kept on-leash around the playspace, for the safety of both children and dogs
- Maintains the park’s off-leash status, relying on shared responsibility and common sense from users
The BBQ and extra seating will be funded through Local Government Community Grants as part of the 2025 Election Commitments.
Note: During construction, the eastern side of the park will be fenced off to ensure public safety.
