Help shape the park upgrades at Ric Vosper Reserve

Last Updated: 25 November 2024 Follow Engagement

Ric Vosper Reserve, nestled in the heart of Brentwood, is set to undergo a park and playground renewal, and the community's voice is central to shaping its future. We want to ensure the community helps shape the improvements that are prioritised and incorporated into the design. With its playground and basketball hoop, the reserve has been a hub for local recreation and gatherings.

Whilst a full comprehensive masterplan process isn't in place, the playground is up for renewal, along with additional park improvements including seating, gazebo/rotunda and a learn-to-ride track.

Draft Concept Plan

In our first round of engagement, we gathered your feedback on how the reserve is currently being used and what improvements or changes you'd like to see. Using this input, we've created a draft Concept Plan that reflects your ideas and suggestions for the future of the reserve.

What is the interactive training circuit?

The proposed interactive training circuit is a 'learn to ride track', designed to help young cyclists and scooter riders develop confidence and essential riding skills.

The  track aims to provide a safe environment where children can practise navigating realistic road scenarios, including road signs, speed bumps, pedestrian crossings, and a roundabout.

Imaginative play elements like a pretend fuel pump, make-believe ice cream van, and ticket booth for the train will create a truly unique experience.

Nature play areas will be positioned between circuits, giving kids a chance to pause, play, and refresh.

Plans include a mix of smooth paths and a gravel section for added excitement, offering a fun way to introduce kids to various terrains.

Parking areas for bikes and scooters will make it convenient for families to enjoy this space, making the learn to ride track an ideal destination for learning road safety and having fun!

What is park hierarchy?
The hierarchy of parks, within Melville is pocket, local, neighbourhood and district and reflects state documentation/strategies.

This hierarchy is based on the number of anticipated visitors and the distance they are drawn from to attend this space. For example, with district parks it is anticipated people will be drawn from over 2 kilometres, neighbourhood parks are anticipated to draw residents from 800 metres and local parks residents from approximately 400 metres and pocket parks are the incidental green spaces around the City.

The amount of facilities/infrastructure provided on each space reflects the size and use of the reserve and the distance required travelling and therefore the anticipated duration of time spent on-site.

The distribution of district, neighbourhood and local parks allows us to have a balanced level of the quality of space across the City.
