Not all items can (or should) go into your kerbside bins or bulk verge collection. There are a number of ways that you can dispose of these items responsibly:

City of Melville residents can drop off their unwanted electronic goods, bulk recycling and some Household Hazardous Waste items at our drop off days.

Recycle Hubs

Conveniently recycle household batteries, household light globes and fluoro tubes, ink cartridges, mobile phones and chargers at our recycle hubs at City libraries and community centres.

Whole Car Bodies: 

Books, Clothing, Textiles and Other Pre-loved Household Items

Please dispose of damaged clothing, textiles and shoes in your red-lidded General Waste bin. Do not place these items in your yellow-lidded recycling bin, as this causes major contamination issues at recycling facilities.

Bulk Recyclables

Bulky recyclables can take up a lot of space in your yellow-lidded recycling bin. The following are some suggestions to help with this:

  • City of Melville E-Waste and Recycling Drop Off Days accepts bulk recyclables
  • Visit Recycle Right to find your nearest drop off location
  • Some retailers will take back excess packaging from large items. Check with them when you buy something

Dead Animals

If you have found a deceased animal contact the City on 1300 635 845 | 9364 0666 or lodge an online request. Deceased animal/s found within the City will be collected and adequately disposed of in a safe, humane and tidy manner.

If animals are registered, tagged etc., all possible attempts are made to contact owner(s).  

Eyewear Gas Bottles

Gas bottles and cylinders are Household Hazardous Waste and must not be disposed of in any of your kerbside bins. These can cause fires in waste collection trucks and recycling facilities.

Glass (Large Items)

Large glass items include mirrors, tables and furniture with glass panels, shower screens, plate glass, fish tanks/aquariums. These are not accepted in any kerbside bins or verge waste collection and must be disposed via:

  • Junk collection services (e.g. 1800 GOT JUNK, Perth Rubbish Removal)
  • Various skip bin providers

Household Hazardous Waste

Residential quantities (no more than 20L/kg) of Household Hazardous Waste can be recycled or disposed of for free through the WA Waste Authority Household Hazardous Waste Program.
