Watch Around Water

We endorse the Watch Around Water Program. The program is designed to educate patrons and raise awareness about adequate and active supervision.

Why is it important?

  • Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children under five
  • Since the program started, there have been no drowning deaths recorded involving young children at public swimming pools in WA

Watch Around Water requirements:

  • Children under six must be within arms reach of a parent/guardian over the age of 16 and in the water at all times
  • Children under 11 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and be within line of sight at all times whilst in the centre

Swim Wall

By filling the wall with air, the swim wall will move from the bottom of the pool into a vertical position. When the wall is not in use it will lay flat on the bottom of the pool.

The swim wall enables us to configure the 50 metre pool in a number of ways, allowing for greater flexibility and the opportunity to provide recreational and lap lanes during peak periods of programming.

What is a swim wall?

A swim wall is a structure which is inflated to reconfigure the 50 metre pool lanes to smaller 25 metre sections. By filling the wall with air, the structure moves from the bottom of the pool into a vertical position. This allows for the flexibility of lane availability and the opportunity to provide recreational and lap lanes during peak periods of programming. The 50 metre pool will be able to be split into five lanes and three lane sections as required. When the wall is not in use it will lay flat on the bottom of the pool.

Will there still be 50 metre lanes available for swimming?

When the swim wall is not in operation there will be 50 metre lanes available for lap swimming. The pool configuration will only change when the swim wall is in operation. During this time there will be a minimum of 3 x 25 metre lanes available for lap swimming.

What are the benefits of a swim wall?

The swim wall will provide better access and accommodation of recreation swimmers, inflatables, bookings, and lap lane swimmers. Where bookings would usually occupy half a lane, the other half of the lane will now be able to be utilised by other swimmers. We can also accommodate other user groups to provide an array of services to the City of Melville.
