H5 bird flu detection

H5 bird flu has been detected in Western Australia. If you notice multiple sick or dead birds or other animals, you should not touch them or get too close. Avoid contact. Record what you see. Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) detection
Qfly has been detected in the suburbs of Como and South Perth. The City of Melville is in the orange zone of the Quarantine Area meaning:
Host fruit and fruiting vegetables must not be moved outside of the Orange Zone unless they have been treated.
Host fruit and fruiting vegetables moving within the Orange Zone or into the Red Zone must be maintained under secure conditions (covered, in packaging, fully enclosed or screened buildings) to ensure the produce does not become infested.

Blue Gum Lake Turtle Tracker Training

Join the Friends of Booragoon and Blue Gum Lakes to learn about our local Southwestern Snake-necked Turtles and how the community can help support their conservation.

Melville EcoHub Environment Sustainability and environment Adults Free Seniors

This training will introduce volunteers to turtle tracking at Blue Gum Lake and provide information and practical guidance to help prepare for the upcoming turtle nesting season.

Come along, learn more about our local turtles and discover how you can contribute to their protection and citizen science through the use of TurtleSAT

Sunday 30 August 2026 – 10am to 2pm
