In honour of National Volunteer Week (19 to 25 May)earlier this year, we’re sharing messages of appreciation for the incredible volunteers who help make our city stronger, more connected, and more compassionate.

Sascha: A huge thank you to Sascha, for your dedication to conservation and youth engagement. Your work organising the Youth Landcare for Black Cockatoos sessions has made a real impact—supporting vital weeding and planting efforts to restore habitat and protect these birds. You are making a real difference for both our environment and the next generation. From the EcoHub Team.

Alfred Quay: Alfred repeatedly comes in for several hours each week to help our customers with their technology issues. This helps both staff and customers significantly. Thanks Alfred for your dedication to come in for four or more hours each week to help people with their technology issues.Aflred can spend the one on one time with customers that we can't. This enables us to give our customers who need detailed help as an option to solve their technology issues, and have a chat with someone to stay connected to the community. Judy P

Trevor Kelly: Trevor has been a permanent fixture at the Wireless Hill Museum, every Wednesday for Years. He is so reliable, flexible and has abilities to help out wherever needed. He is a lovely person, who we feel honoured to have at the Museum. Both him and his wife, attend CoM functions, in full support of our efforts.His knowledge of museum items, from valves, to radio's to helping with new exhibiton installs. Ann Bunting: Ann has been volunteering with Read Write Now for over 17 years. Her long-standing commitment and support has shapen the organisation in countless ways. Her dedication and leadership have been instrumental in fostering a thriving community of learners and tutors in the Fremantle/Melville area. Thank you Ann for your incredible work as our RWN Coordinator for the Fremantle/Melville region. Your dedication to helping others improve their literacy skills is outstanding. You are always there with a helping hand, finding solutions to any challenge and your community spirit is nothing short of inspiring. Read Write Now

Pat Richards: Pat volunteered many years to teaching Tai Chi at Willagee Community Centre before handing over the reigns just shy of her 90th birthday. She was dedicated and reliable and helped many people. Pat, you dedicated so much time to the community and your Tai Chi class was so popular we had to stop advertising it. Helen and Marie (Seasonal Bushwalk Guides): Thank you to our amazing bushwalk volunteers, Marie and Helen, for sharing your passion, knowledge and love for Piney Lakes Reserve with our community. Your seasonal guided walks not only connect people with nature but also inspire appreciation and care for the unique environment we're so lucky to have. Amy Kok: Amy is a parent volunteer and a P&C Committee Member of Oberthur Primary School in Bull Creek. Amy has demonstrated outstanding commitment and leadership through her coordination of weekly lunch orders on Wednesdays for over two years. She played a pivotal role in organising key events such as the annual EduDance Raffle, Mother's and Father's Day Stalls, and the Athletics Carnival. In addition, Amy has served with distinction as our Building Fund Coordinator. Through three years of dedicated fundraising efforts, she successfully spearheaded the installation of a new senior playground, which was officially opened at the beginning of this year. Anonymous

Juanita (Volunteer Visitor at Umbrella Community Care Inc.): Juanita stands out for her creativity and compassion in overcoming a language barrier to connect with her client. By bringing her puppy during visits, she found a unique way to bring joy and comfort, fostering a meaningful bond. Her kindness, patience and dedication to enhancing her client's life through non-verbal communication are truly exceptional. Nancy Ciampini (Walk Leader - Westfield Walkers): Nancy is always cheerful and happy to help new walkers. Maintains and cares for all the new shirts for any new walker. Keep up the good work Nancy. You have been a walk leader for 20 years. She has helped the community by encouraging people to get out and join in both physically and mentally for their own community. Lyn

Glyn (Volunteer Melville Cares Driver): Dear Glyn, This week is National Volunteer Week and I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you what a privilege it was to meet you at Alchera on the 8 April when you participated in the video shoot to promote volunteer bus driving. Watching you in action with the residents, with humour and such a friendly approach, was lovely, and to see how much they appreciated you driving them to their regular outing was special. Clearly you are well liked and valued as part of the group. Your comments in the video interview about how volunteering has made such a positive difference to your life was especially insightful and heartwarming.Thank you for your generosity in contributing to our Melville community. Veronica

Marian (Social Textiles & Repair Lab): Marian is one of the most dedicated volunteers I've met, with great skills and drive to make change. You've been a rock keeping Social Textiles together. Without you, I feel the program would flounder. Anonymous

Peter Neesham (Chairman Bicton Environmental Action Group (BEAG): Peter effectively runs the organising of the volunteers and local school groups to undertake planting and weeding in the nature reserves of Blackwall Reach and Point Walter Woodland areas. Peter does his best to encourage others to participate in our working groups, trying to keep our natural environment healthy as much as possible. 

Barrie Quigley (President, Bicton Fremantle RSL): Barrie is a positive and passionate volunteer at the Bicton Fremantle RSL sub branch who always has a smile on his face. He is a respected leader and advocate for current and past service men and women. Keep smiling Baz! You are a wonderful local volunteer and loved and appreciated by all of your community. Macca

JingShu (President of Chinese Mums Association): Becoming a mum is tough enough, but doing it in a new country, with a different culture and language and without nearby family support, adds a whole other layer. Jingshu and her committee members understand this deeply and she's created a warm, welcoming space where Chinese mums can come together, share experiences, speak their own language and feel less alone. Thank you Jingshu for your late nights and early mornings spent organising events and playgroups, Your kindness, commitment and quiet strenght mean more than words can say. Anonymous

Lynn Fraser (Kardinya Primary School Canteen Volunteer): Thank you for always being happy to help our canteen. No matter what the job is it is always done well and with a smile. Thank you for the joy you bring into our canteen with you. Without Lynn out canteen wouldn't be open as often on a Tuesday! Kerryn

Helen Dowling (Convenor of Threads of Change): Helen is the inspiring leader and co-ordinator of a group of knitters and crocheters who supported people in need through charities in Perth and India. Social Textiles Volunteers
Thank you to our wonderful Social Textiles Group mentors and bunting library volunteers, Marian, Andrea, Carey, Wendy for creating a wonderfully supportive and encouraging environment that brings creativity, sustainability, and community together. The time and work that went into the Bunting Library was immense, resulting in such a lovingly made and valuable resource for our community. From the Eco Hub Team.

Civic Square Library Volunteers
Thank you for taking time to help us out at the library to organise and tidy up our shelves.Thank you for showing up and being very kind to help us out, your effort really makes a difference to our work. Sometimes the library gets very busy and we don't always have time to make our shelves look good. Melville Cares Volunteers
We have volunteers that have completed 25 plus years and some who have just joined. They all equally give their time freely with a smile. We are grateful for all your commitment and dedication to your roles. Your contribution makes a real difference in the community and our clients. Thank you for YOU.
