Community engagementCommunity invited to share their feedback on the proposed swing installation
The City of Melville considered a possible swing installation within a small grassed area at Moonlight Cove, Brentwood, following a community request.
Due to the limited size of the space, its close proximity to the road, and other site constraints, a tailored and proportionate engagement approach was undertaken to understand local views before a decision was made.
Local residents were invited to share their feedback by completing a short online survey; consultation closed at 4.00pm Thursday, 26 February 2026.
Results showed that the majority of residents did not support a swing being installed - read the engagement snapshot for more information.

The City engaged with the nearby community to understand local views before any decision was made.
Due to the small size of the space, its proximity to the road, and site constraints, it was important to confirm whether the community supported a swing at the location and to understand preferences if the project did proceed.
The consultation was delivered at the ‘consult’ level of engagement, and was designed to ensure all residents could provide meaningful and equitable input.
Residents were asked to indicate whether they supported a swing installation, and all participants - regardless of their level of support - could also indicate their preferred swing type (in case the project did proceed).
We aimed to make our engagement process accessible to all. In addition to the online survey, feedback could be provided by contacting the City:
- Over the phone, 9364 0666
- In person, at the City of Melville Administration Building located at 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon WA.
Please note that only one submission per person was accepted. Multiple submissions were removed. In line with our procurement process, any submissions from playground suppliers were also removed.
If the proposed installation goes ahead, this project would be funded as part of the City’s capital works program and approved in the 2025/26 budget. It should be noted that the budget for this project is limited.
