Meet the Coaches

  • Jason-Evans.jpg

Head Coach Jason Evans has extensive experience as a career Swimming Coach, with a Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science and a Graduate Diploma of Education. With many years of coaching experience and success at a State and National level, Jason has been in the past a valued and integral member of the South Shore team, and this promotion as Head Coach will see him lead the way for the rebuilding of the club upon returning to LeisureFit Booragoon.

A lifelong swimmer himself, Jason has been a keen competitor in the pool, open water and surf lifesaving and has competed at all three levels of the sport (State, National and International). Jason's personal and academic experience combined with a holistic approach to development is sure to serve our members well.

  • Peta-Goodsell.jpg

Coach Peta Goodsell has been coaching for 35 years from mini squad to National gold medallist level and everything in between. Throughout this time, Coach Peta has coached hundreds of state individual and relay medallists/record holders and national gold, silver and bronze medallists. A proud Mother and Grandmother, Coach Peta has seen three of her four children go on to be successful national swimmers and is now enjoying the early success of her grandchildren as they enter the sport. In Coach Peta’s own words “I retired from swimming coaching to be able to assist more with my grandchildren but never lost my passion for this fabulous sport and thanks to a wonderful opportunity at South Shore, I can be involved again in the development of the club’s juniors.”

South Shore’s junior program continues to develop from strength to strength under the expert guidance and tutelage of Coach Peta.

  • Jarrett-(1).jpg

Coach Jarrett is the Fitness Squad coach, having a long history with South Shore firstly as a competitive swimmer and then as a South Shore coach. Jarrett has coached swimmers from beginners in Bronze squad all the way to qualifying for nationals. Jarrett has completed the Solo Rottnest Channel Swim, so has a keen interest in Open Water swimming and swimming for fitness. He is committed and passionate in his focus on the development of the technique, skills, and fitness of all of those that he coaches. He is keen to develop all in the Fitness squad to reach their swimming goals.

  • Jarrett-(1).jpg

Coach Claire has been swimming for as long as she can remember, learning to swim right here at LeisureFit Booragoon and proudly competing for Applecross Swim Club (now Southshore) back in the day. With a career spanning all areas of the sport and recreation industry, from swim teaching to managing programs and running her own swim school, Claire brings deep experience and a genuine love for the sport.

She is passionate about the positive impact swimming can have on kids, helping them grow into healthy, happy and confident individuals. Her favourite part of coaching is guiding young swimmers as they transition from learn-to-swim into squad training, ensuring they build strong technique and good habits, enjoy their sessions and feel supported.

Now assisting our Bronze squad, Claire is thrilled to return to where it all began. She’s excited to give back to the community that first inspired her love of swimming and help the next generation thrive.

  • Finn-(1).jpg

Throughout Coach Fin's schooling, he was part of the Busselton Swimming Club as a competitive swimmer before discovering a love for helping others and becoming a swimming teacher and coach. Over time, he transitioned from competing at state level and in open water events to taking on a mentor and coaching role, where he could share his passion for the sport and help others learn to swim.

He found himself truly enjoying coaching, continually building on and sharing his experience while staying connected to the swimming community. Helping people overcome challenges is one of the most rewarding parts of coaching for him. That moment when a swimmer has an “ah-ha!” realisation, when everything suddenly clicks, makes him so proud and excited for them, even if it’s just understanding a small part of a bigger skill.

He is currently studying journalism and sound at Murdoch.

  • Jessica-square.jpg

Coach Jessica is one of the Bronze Squad coaches, developing the skills of South Shore’s newest members. Having been a competitive swimmer with South Shore from the age of nine, Jessica has progressed from being in the water to coaching the next generation of swimmers. She is studying physiotherapy at Curtin University and is committed and passionate about using her knowledge to support the development of technique, skills and fitness in all those she coaches.
