LeisureFit in partnership with the South Shore Swimming Club is committed to providing a sustainable program for competitive swimmers which form part of our overall swimming continuum suite of programs at the facility, from; Aquababies, Learn to Swim, Teen Swim, Competition Program, Endurance and Masters.

The LeisureFit Competition Swim program is structured to provide those interested in swimming competitively the best possible training, swim facilities and coaches. The program endeavours to provide a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment that encourages participation and achievement through swimming. With a number of swimmers achieving significant results at state and national levels, the LeisureFit Competition Swim program is a well established program that can help your swimmer achieve their goals.

Those interested in this program must also be members of the South Shore Swim Club.

Squad Descriptions

LeisureFit Competition Swim offers a range of squad options based on age, ability and training frequency. Any new swimmers interested in the program will need to undertake a complimentary assessment. Prerequisites for an assessment - completion of a Learn to Swim program, is willing to train at least twice a week and is willing to compete. Bronze

2 Sessions per week - $56.31 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 7 to 12 years being introduced to competitive swimming whether it be club nights, school carnivals or Swimming WA meets
  • Member at the South Shore Swimming Club within 3 months of comencing the program
  • This group focuses on drill/skill development in all four competitive strokes. Education on starts, turns and finishes
  • Distance: 1000m - 1500m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, 750ml water bottle

Session times:

  • Tuesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Thursday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Saturday 8.00am to 9.00am
Fitness

2 Sessions per week - $56.31 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 12+ years who wish to train for fitness and not compete at meets
  • To be a member of South Shore Swimming Club within 3 months of commencing the program
  • This group predominantly focusses on swimming distance in freestyle with elements of other strokes introduced from time to time
  • Distance: 2500m - 3000m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard and 750ml water bottle

Session times:

  • Tuesday 6.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Thursday 6.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Saturday 9.00am to 10.00am
Silver

3 Sessions per week - $62.08 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 8 to 12 years
  • Have graduated from Bronze Squad and/or achieved a State qualifying time
  • A competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club competing at Swimming WA meets and attending club nights
  • This group focuses on drill/skill development in all 4 competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes. Uses the pace clock
  • Distance: 1500m - 2500m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, hand paddles, snorkel and 750ml water bottle

Session times:

  • Monday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Tuesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Thursday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Saturday 8.00am to 9.00am
YES

3-4 Sessions per week - $65.77 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 8 – 12 years who have been invited, generally from the Silver Squad, to train in this extension squad
  • A competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club competing at Swimming WA meets and attending club nights
  • The group focuses on drill/skill development in all 4 competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes. Use of the pace clock
  • Distance: 2500m - 3000m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, hand paddles, snorkel and 750ml water bottle

Session times:

  • Tuesday 6.00am to 7.30am
  • Wednesday 5.00pm to 6.00pm
  • Thursday 6.00am to 7.30am
  • Friday 5.00pm to 6.30pm
  • Saturday 6.00am to 8.00am
Gold

4 sessions per week - $79.62 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 11 to 15 years
  • To be a competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club competing at Swimming WA meets and club nights
  • Training focuses on continued development of drills/skills an all four competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes
  • Distance: 3000m - 4000m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, hand paddles, snorkle and 750ml water bottle

Session times:

  • Monday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Tuesday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Wednesday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Thursday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Friday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Saturday 6.00am to 8.00am
Performance

6+ sessions per week - $93.00 per fortnight

Criteria:

  • Swimmers aged 12+ years
  • To be a competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club attending club nights and Swimming WA meets/Open Water events and club nights
  • This group focuses on perfecting technique in all four competitive strokes and racing skills. Swimmers in this squad compete at state and national level competitions
  • Distance: 4000m - 7000m per session
  • Equipment Requirements: Fins, kickboard, hand paddles, snorkel, 750ml water bottle and other specialised equipment advised by Coach

Session times:

  • Monday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Monday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Tuesday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Wednesday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Thursday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Friday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Saturday 6.00am to 8.00am

Performance Swimmers also have access to their own specified Strength and Conditioning sessions.

Meet the Coaching Team

Our coaching team, led by Chris Twomey, comprises of over 90 years of coaching experience as well as many years of competitive swimming. Our coaching team are highly motivated and will always endeavour to bring out the best in their swimmers.

As members of the South Shore Swimming Club, all our coaches have a vested interest in ensuring the continued success of the Club as well as the Competition Swim program. Find out more about about our coaches, their qualifications and experience below.

  • Chris Twomey

    Chris Twomey joins us as a Silver Accredited Coach and has experience both in Australia and overseas as a Swim Coach and Development Coach. Chris completed his Master of Education (Sports Coaching) at the University of Sydney and received an award of Advance High Performance Coaching through ASCTA.

    Key achievements:

    • Multiple provincial national medallist in Ireland & Western Australia
    • Record holder across multiple events and age groups
    • Multiple medallist and finalist at Australian National Age Championships
    • Multiple finalist at Australian Open Championships and Olympic trials
    • Number of personal sporting achievements in the water and on the field

    Chris’s philosophy to coaching is “empowering young people to be champions in life through excellence in swimming”, a mantra that he promotes at South Shore where coaches take a holistic approach to developing the person and athlete.

  • Craig Murray

    Craig coaches our YES & Gold Squads. He is a Silver Licence (Theory) Coach and has over 50 years experience in competitive swimming as a competitor and a coach.

    Craig has been involved in the aquatic sports of swimming, water polo, surf lifesaving, open water and triathlons for many years and brings to our program a wealth of experience and knowledge, both as a coach and a competitor – locally and abroad.

    Craig knows and appreciates the importance of teamwork, mutual respect and a common goal. Craig is the current Vice President of South Shore Swimming Club.

  • Christophe Lin

    Christophe is a Development Level Coach with over 25 years of experience in competitive swimming as both a coach and an Olympic Swimmer for Mauritius. Christophe primarily works with our Silver Squad, however often covers for our top squads too. His expertise in developing technique and his energy on deck is unsurpassed.

    Christophe is a member of the South Shore Club Committee.

  • Jarrett Kang

    Jarrett coaches our Fitness Squad. He possesses his Swimming Teacher of Competitive Strokes Course.

    Jarrett is one of our senior swimmers in the Performance Squad and uses his experience as a state level swimmer to inspire and develop the swimmers in his group.

    He is currently studying Animal Health & Science at Murdoch University.

  • Jason Mack

    Jason works primarily with the junior swimmers in the Bronze Squad and has a keen interest in developing technique and racing skills. He has been on deck with the program for over two years and possesses his Swimming Teacher of Competitive Strokes Award.

    Jason assists our Head Coach Chris with a number of Performance Squad sessions where he provides video analysis support.
