Neighbourhood Village Project

Do you ever wish your neighbourhood felt more like a community, not just a collection of houses?

Imagine a neighbourhood where...

• Annual traditions are celebrated
• Kids play together at local parks
• Murals are commissioned to brighten alleyways
• Emergency plans are in place - with check-in lists for vulnerable neighbours
• Front yards are converted to community gardens
• Neighbours gather for golden hour picnics

This is the kind of community the Neighbourhood Village Project helps to build. The Neighbourhood Village Project is a global initiative designed to support everyday people in transforming their neighbourhoods into thriving communities.

The City of Melville has engaged Shani Graham from Ecoburbia to facilitate this 10-session program for interested local residents.

Program Details:

• Duration: 10 sessions
• Day and time: Tuesday, 6.30pm to 8.00pm
• Dates: Sept 15, 22, 29, Oct 6, 13, 27, Nov 3, 10 and then two more monthly sessions TBD
• Location: City of Melville EcoHub
• Cost: Free
• Eligibility: City of Melville residents, 18 years and over
• Time commitment: A minimum time commitment of about 3-4 hours per week is recommended to make the most of the program, come to the sessions, and take action in your neighbourhood. 
• After You Apply: You'll have a two-way interview with the facilitator to make sure you taking the program is a good mutual fit.

What to expect:

1.5 hour interactive group workshops with actions to take home and complete in your community each week.

Event activities will start on time, but if you are running late, you may still join.

Type of event and expectations

Adult learning space - guests are requested to turn phones to silent, where possible, remain seated for the duration of the event, be respectful to facilitator and attendees alike and exit discreetly when needed. This event is unlikely to be suitable for children.

Accessibility

Mainly sitting, some movement within the room.

One ACROD parking bay is available at front of EcoHub, Rooms are located on multiple levels connected via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue. For specific access requirements please feel free to call or email EcoHub at (08)9364 0191 or [email protected]

Directions to centre

Please consider using public transportation. There are several bus stops just a 2-minute walk away from EcoHub which service multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Highway across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn  just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.

Recycling hub
Bring the following items in household quantities for recycling at EcoHub when you attend: household batteries, printer cartridges, light globes, mobile phones and chargers, plastic bread tags, oral care products, plastic bottle lids, metal bottle lids, beer can clips and corks.
