Explore useful resources and information we have available for parents and families including childcare centres and support, playgroups, toy libraries and more.
Playgroups
Playgroups are for babies and young children who haven’t started school yet and their parents, caregivers, or extended families. They offer a space for socialisation and learning together through play. Visit Playgroup Association of WA to find a playgroup near you.
Toy Libraries
Toy libraries allow you to loan many different types of toys for your children, offering a more sustainable and economically friendly alternative to purchasing toys. See local toy libraries below or visit Toy Libraries Australia to find your nearest toy library.
City of Melville Toy Library
We run a toy library from Leeming Heights Community Hall. It boasts one of the largest and most extensive selections of quality educational toys for children aged 0-6 years. You need to be a resident of the City of Melville to borrow from the toy library. Contact melvilletoylibrary@icloud.com for more information on their Toy Library.
Attadale Toy Library
Attadale Toy Library is a volunteer run library with more than 700 toys for hire. Yearly memberships are available at an affordable price. Find out more information about Attadale Toy Library.
Childcare Centres
There are multiple options for childcare including family day care, in-home childcare, long day care and occasional care. For school aged children you can utilise outside of school hours care and vacation care centres. Use the Child Care Finder from the Department of Education and Training to find a suitable childcare centre near you.
Immunisation Clinics
Free vaccinations are available to children according to the childhood immunisation schedule. To find your local immunisation clinic for your child, Healthy WA provides a comprehensive list of clinics for children and adolescents. For any immunisation records please refer to the Australian Immunisation Register.
Schools
The Australian Schools Directory lists all government and private schools within the City of Melville and is searchable by location, religion, gender, special needs, boarding and curriculum. If you’re looking for information about alternative schooling options including home schooling, community-based courses and exemptions, see the Department of Educationwebsite.
