Guidelines for Poultry
You may keep poultry including chickens, fowls and ducks on your residential property without approval from us as long as they are complying with the below guidelines outlined in our
Health Local Law:- No more than 12 can be kept on your property at anytime
- Must be kept in a properly constructed, secured enclosure and sufficient housing provided;
- Enclosures and housing must be at least 1.2 metres from the property boundary and 9 meters from an adjoining residential premises
- Enclosures and housing must be maintained and cleaned regularly. In addition, how you feed and store food is important so it does not create offensive odours, encourage the breeding of flies and attract rodents.

Roosters, Geese, Peacocks and Turkeys
Residents are not to keep roosters, geese, peacocks, or turkeys on properties in residential areas due to noise nuisance.
Nuisance Poultry on Private Property
Poultry on private property is the owner’s responsibility. Please ensure you manage your poultry properly, so they do not cause a nuisance to others. If we receive complaints about your poultry, an officer may visit your premises and request works to be undertaken such as removal.

Please note: We cannot remove poultry on private property however we can direct the owner/occupier to manage their poultry properly or remove their poultry if they are causing a nuisance in the fist instance.
