Ogilvie Road Reserve Swing Installation
Active
Swing into action – a new swing has been proposed at Ogilvie Road Reserve.
Last Updated: 26 February 2026 Follow EngagementThe City of Melville has been exploring the option of installing a new swing at Ogilvie Road Reserve, Mount Pleasant, as part of the Open Space Design Playground Renewal Program.
Before any decision is made, we wanted to hear from the people who know the park best – the local community who use it.
We invited feedback on whether a swing should be installed at this location and, if the project proceeds, which swing design the community would prefer. Two swing design options were available to consider, along with the option to indicate that a swing should not be installed.
Families were encouraged to get involved together. Parents and carers could explore the designs with children and young people in their household, chat about which option looks the most fun, and share everyone’s views.
Community input will help inform whether there is local support for a swing at Ogilvie Road Reserve and guide the City’s decision, alongside safety, space and technical considerations.

| New swing installation | Additional/alternate play equipment |
| | Shade sails |
| | Barbecue facilities |
| | Toilets and new seating |
Why was only one item considered for this upgrade? This project is being delivered as part of the City’s annual playground renewal program, which allocates funding across multiple sites each year. Due to the small budget available for this location, the scope of works was intentionally focused on a single swing installation.
This approach allows the City to improve play opportunities at Ogilvie Road Reserve in a targeted and cost-effective way, while ensuring funding can continue to be shared across other playground and open space projects throughout the City.
What is park hierarchy? The hierarchy of parks within the City reflects state documentation/strategies. These classifications are based on the number of anticipated visitors and the distance they are drawn from:
- District parks - people will attend from over two kilometres
- Neighbourhood parks - residents from 800 metres
- Local parks - residents from approximately 400 metres
- Pocket parks - incidental green spaces around the City.
The amount of facilities/infrastructure provided at each space reflects the size and use of the reserve, travel distance and therefore, the anticipated duration of time spent on-site.
The distribution of district, neighbourhood and local parks allows us to have a balanced level of the quality of space across the City.
Ogilvie Road Reserve classification is closest to a
pocket park.
Why did we engage the community? The City wanted to understand local views before any decision was made about a potential swing installation at Ogilvie Road Reserve. Community feedback helps inform whether there is support for a swing at this location and, if so, the type of swing the community would prefer.
All feedback will be considered alongside safety, space and technical requirements before a final decision is made.
