The City has transformed vacant Council-owned land into an accessible public open space in the heart of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre

Project Information

The City engaged BOS Civil to transform 2,000 square metres of Council-owned land into an accessible public open space in the heart of the Canning Bridge Activity Centre. Landscape works included the construction of new concrete footpaths, construction of a new playground themed on the Egret bird, installation of new garden beds, trees, plants and turf.

The former Senior Citizens building was demolished eight years ago, and since then, the site has been used as a car parking area and construction set-down zones, with no buildings or structures remaining. At the April 2023 Ordinary Meeting of Council, Council resolved to forthwith progress conversion of 100% of the site to public open space. This park is seen by the community as much needed green space. Local Whadjuk Noongar knowledge-holders have been supportive of this project from the beginning and see it as an important reconnection to the river.
