Community Languages Collection
Discover our Community Languages collection, and read, listen and watch in the language that feels right for you! Perfect for anyone who speaks a language other than English, or who is wanting to learn a new language.
- Our physical collection offers a range of books and DVDs across a range of languages and age groups. These collections can be found on the shelf at AH Bracks Library + Creative Space, Bull Creek Library, Civic Square Library and Willagee Library. If you can’t find the language or title you are looking for, the State Library catalogue offers a wider range of languages and titles, which you may be able to request via interlibrary loan.

- Our digital collection includes a vast collection of ebooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks and videos for streaming for a range of languages and age groups, available through our eLibrary.
Conversational English Classes
Learn Australian English conversation and gain the confidence to greet and talk to people. These classes, led by friendly volunteers, will help you speak and understand English and learn about Australian society, culture and customs. There are no fees charged for these classes and everyone is welcome.
All sessions are held at AH Bracks Library + Creative Space during school terms only.

Online Language Learning
- Mango Languages offers language courses in 72 languages, plus English lessons customised for speakers of 21 native languages. Use your City of Melville library card number and PIN to sign up and get free access to all the lessons.
- ABC Learn English is free and accessible to anyone learning English as a second language. Provided by Australia’s public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
- SBS Learn English offers free language lessons and content to help you improve your English and live well in Australia.
- LOTE4Kids is an online database of 10,000+ digital picture books available in over 115+ languages, including several sign languages, that allows kids to enjoy the magic of books in the language they are most comfortable in. Each book comes with English translations to help kids learn languages.
