Learn how to extend the life of your clothing by incorporating hand stitching techniques like appliqué, embroidery, and sashiko into repairs. Beginner friendly!

This workshop is perfect for beginners or those wanting to rediscover and build on forgotten skills to transform worn or damaged garments. Along with gaining practical sewing techniques, participants will be inspired to add personality and meaning to their clothes in creative ways while embracing a more sustainable approach to fashion!

You will be taught visible mending techniques like appliqué, embroidery, and sashiko in a collaborative setting. All skill levels are welcome to learn and share practical tips with a community of like-minded individuals passionate about the art of mending.

What you’ll get

All workshop materials (including Sashiko needle and thread) and notes so that you can continue mending and revamping your clothes at home.

What to bring

Items from home you would like to practice your skills on.

Your own personal sewing kits, if you have them, and would like to be shown how to use them.

Embellishments (buttons, patches, fabrics etc) if you have them.

Your imagination and enthusiasm.

Length

~3 hour workshop with guidance from Elise to do your own projects.

Start time

Event activities will start on time, but if you are running late, you may still join.

Type of event and expectations

Adult workshop space - Guests are expected to follow instructions of the program facilitator, be respectful at all times and assume responsibility for their own safety. This workshop is not suitable for children.

Accessibility

This is a sitting event. Fine motor skills.

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near EcoHub and services multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.

Bring the following items in household quantities for recycling at EcoHub when you attend: household batteries, printer cartridges, light globes, mobile phones and chargers, plastic bread tags, oral care products, plastic bottle lids, metal bottle lids, beer can clips and corks.
