About Melville | The Contemporary Architecture and Sound Sessions
Melville | The Contemporary Architecture and Sound Sessions began in 2020 as an opportunity for residents and visitors to the city to explore the City of Melville’s rich and diverse modern architecture story.
Featuring homes from the 1950s through to builds of the present day, each session invites guests to look at home design through a different lens, with a tour of one of the city’s architectural gems. Revealing iconic post-modern designs to contemporary builds that challenge accepted norms of space and connectivity, the sessions explore how our homes reflect the values of their time and how these values are well worth preserving.
Hosted by the home’s owners, each session includes a discussion by a design expert, often the original architect, facilitated by Emma Williamson, co-founder and partner at TheFulcrum.Agency. The program offers insights into the ways design can help us respond to the contemporary challenges of a growing population and a changing climate. Guests are invited to stay for a live music performance and refreshments to complete this fascinating afternoon of design and discovery.
“Each house tells a story; some of them have been in the same family for generations. But each architectural style also tells a story, about how our society and the way we live has evolved, from the 50s and 60s all the way through to today.” Emma Williamson, guest curator, TheFulcrum.Agency Explore the 2021 Gallery
