What is the Youth Steering Group? The Youth Steering Group is a group of young people who get together to work on youth events and projects, and make sure the City of Melville achieves the goals laid out in the Directions from Young People Strategy. They work with the City of Melville to make the City a better place for young people!
What does the Group do? The group meets once a month to work on projects and also gets involved with creating, leading and participating at youth events. Members are also invited to attend other community events, workshops and to work with City staff and Elected Members.
How much work is involved? The group meets once per month for 2 hours, 10 times a year. There’s also the opportunity to get involved with other projects and events!
Do I get paid? Yes! You get paid $25 per hour for each of the 10 annual workshops.
Do I need a Working with Children Check? If you are aged 18 and over you need a Working with Children Check. If you don’t have one, we will help you and cover the cost to apply. People under 18 are not eligible to apply for these checks – so no need to worry about it!
Can I apply if I’m under 16? Once you turn 16 you are eligible to join the group, but feel free to apply and leave your details. We may have other things you can get involved with, and if you want to stay updated you can join our mailing list too.
What does it mean to have a strong connection to the City of Melville? We are looking for people who work, live, study, volunteer or recreate (eg. play sport in) within the City.
