Report a lost pet

To report your pet missing please contact the City on 9364 0666 or report a lost animal online. You may also like to notify local vets or surrounding Local Governments.

MelSafe keep a record of any dogs and cats reported by their owners as being lost. MelSafe are able to match details from these reports with any dog or cat that may either be reported as found or impounded. Please note the lost animal will only be kept on record for one month. It is the owners responsibility to notify of any changes of circumstance to the animal.

To ensure your lost dog or cat can be returned to you as soon as possible, ensure they are wearing a collar and registration tags as well as keeping their microchip details up to date. Please note dogs must be registered and microchipped from three months of age, and cats must be registered, microchipped and sterilised from six months of age.

Animal release

The below fees are applicable for the release of an animal:

• Release of Registered Dog/Cat During Pound Hours - $100.00
• Release of Unregistered Dog/Cat During Pound Hours - $200.00 plus registration fee
• Release of Registered Dog/Cat Outside of Pound Hours - $180.00
• Release of Unregistered Dog/Cat During Pound Hours - $280.00 plus registration fee
• Sustenance and Maintenance for a Dog in a Pound - $35.00 per day
• Microchipping of a dog - $50.00

All dogs released from the Animal Management Facility must be registered and microchipped.

All cats released from the Animal Management Facility must be registered, mircrochipped and sterilised.

If a dog or cat is not claimed within seven days from the date of impoundment, the dog or cat will be assessed for its suitability to be rehomed by an independent animal rescue group.

The Animal Management Facility can be contacted by appointment only Monday to Friday, 8.30AM to 5.00PM, excluding Public Holidays. Please attend the City of Melville Civic Centre, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon, prior to collection to book appointment and to settle outstanding account.
