Born into a Dutch migrant family, Katy Mair was raised in the City of Melville. The values of perseverance, respect for the environment, and a strong sense of community were instilled early.

Driven by a passion for learning, Katy pursued a Bachelor of Arts, followed by a Diploma in Education. Recognising the importance of effective governance, she completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course, equipping herself with the skills necessary for leadership and strategic decision-making.

Katy’s dedication to our community is reflected in extensive involvement as a Councillor and Mayor in the City of Melville. She is inclusive and proactive, encouraging collaborative efforts to address community concerns and enhance quality of life.

A passionate advocate for the preservation of Melville’s green spaces, Katy played a role in protecting clubs and parks from property development. Recognising the importance of natural habitats, she has been a supporter of the Bird Sanctuary and natural bush reserves and parks. She is also a promoter of sustainable practices and emission reduction, ensuring that recreational areas are well-maintained for future generations.

With financial stewardship in mind, Katy has supported initiatives to renew ageing recreational facilities and a plan for a new cultural facility within Melville. She recognises the importance of balancing community aspirations with long-term economic viability, ensuring that investments in infrastructure and services meet current needs but also safeguard the city’s financial health for the future.

As Melville continues to grow, Katy continues to focus on community, environment, vibrancy and financial sustainability ensuring that the city has a bright and prosperous future.
