At the May 2026 Ordinary Meeting of Council, Council considered a Notice of Motion relating to tree transplanting and revegetation opportunities associated with the approved clearing area at John Connell Reserve.
The motion focused on exploring opportunities to:
- Transplant trees and grass trees where possible;
- Investigate additional revegetation locations within the City, alongside the already approved works at Ken Hurst Park; and
- Support positive long-term environmental outcomes, including increased tree canopy and wildlife habitat
The Notice of Motion did not amend the existing clearing permit. Current permit conditions remain in place unless any future amendment is formally approved by DWER.
Council Resolution

- Consult with relevant stakeholders to identify sites in other areas within John Connell reserve, for the transplanting of trees and grass trees from the area proposed to be cleared at John Connell Reserve, being mindful to protect threatened ecological species;
- Investigate and liaise with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation to identify other acceptable natural areas in the City, in addition to those already approved in Ken Hurst Park, that would also be suitable as areas for replanting and revegetation; and
- Report the outcomes of points 1 and 2 above to a future meeting of Counci
