Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer and Other Pests

Did you know? Australia's response to Polyphagous Shot-hole Borer (PSHB) is transitioning from eradication to long-term management after experts determined that national eradication is no longer technically feasible. This makes informed community members more important than ever. By becoming extra eyes on the ground and knowing what to look for, we can all play a part in helping slow the spread of this highly destructive invasive pest and protect the trees that define our landscapes and communities.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is delivering a practical workshop at City of Melville EcoHub to help educate the community about PSHB and other pests you might see affecting our native trees and wildlife.

Topics covered:

·      Detection and impact

·      Native and exotic hosts

·      Symptoms and surveillance

·      Treatment and disposal

·      Best management practices

The best defence for our trees is thousands of informed eyes. Be one of them.

Requirements

Adult space - Guests are expected to follow instructions of the program facilitator, be respectful at all times and assume responsibility for their own safety. This workshop is not suitable for children.

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near EcoHub and services multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.

Bring the following items in household quantities for recycling at EcoHub when you attend: household batteries, printer cartridges, light globes, mobile phones and chargers, plastic bread tags, oral care products, plastic bottle lids, metal bottle lids, beer can clips and corks.
