National Reconciliation Week

About National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The week is recognised nationally from 27 May to 3 June and commemorates two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Join us to mark National Reconciliation Week in the City of Melville with a month of free events celebrating the history, culture, achievements and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We invite you to place reconciliation in your heart, mind and actions as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What to Expect

A special collaboration with Blak Dingo Club will celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories in a series of movie nights and a fun quiz night at the Melville Main Hall. All events are free - bookings are essential as capacity is limited - use the event links below to find out more about each event and register your place.

Share breakfast and watch the screening of Reconciliation WA's launch event, come along to storytime sessions at the libraries and Koolangka Waangkiny - Noongar Language Storytime.

Go deeper into reconciliation with cultural educator and artist Rickeeta Walley in a guided walk on country, and join us for a powerful conversation with Dr Tracey Westerman AM - psychologist, author and proud Nyamal woman.
