City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair’s dedicated service to the community and the Local Government sector has been recognised at the WALGA Local Government Awards.
Mayor Mair received a Merit Award as part of the 2026 Local Government Honours Program during the awards night held at the the Western Australian Museum Boola Bardip on Friday, 12 June.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and lasting
contributions made by Elected Members and employees to their respective Local Governments, the
Local Government sector, WALGA and the wider community.
With more than 26 years of dedicated community service as Councillor (1990–1995, 2017–2023) and Mayor (1995–2007, 2023–2027), Mayor Mair has exemplified the highest standards of local government leadership, advocacy and integrity at the City of Melville and within the Western Australian local government sector.
Hifgh profile projects that Mayor Mair has been involved in include the Goolugatup Heathcote Lower Lands Renewal project, supported by a $2.35 million Lotterywest grant within an $8.8 million program, which will create spaces for cultural events, public gatherings and educational installations that deepen community understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements.
She has consistently championed safer, more connected neighbourhoods, working closely with MelSafe, residents and law enforcement to support local safety initiatives that enhance quality of life.
Her leadership style is inclusive and proactive, characterised by community-informed, Council-led decision making and a strong focus on aligning strategic planning with community priorities.
