There are a number of things you can do at the City of Melville EcoHub. We hold regular events and workshops, run shool activities and offer opportunities to volunteer. There are also several walking trails and a community garden nearby. Explore all that the EcoHub and Piney Lakes Reserve has to offer below

Events at EcoHub

We hold a variety of events for all ages at EcoHub including play groups, workshops, group walks and more, all centered around environmental issues, sustainability, nature and wildlife.

Buds n Blooms Nature Play Group

Enjoy guided activities with an experienced facilitator, pick from our vegetable beds, feed the worms, water and plant seeds, play at the mud kitchen, sing songs and enjoy morning tea in the amphitheatre.

Tales and Trails Storytime

Join us for a nature themed story time followed by a short bushwalk around Piney Lakes Reserve (something different each session!).

Free Bunting Library

Borrow these handmade buntings for your home, office or party. It's completely free for anyone inside or outside the City of Melville.

Using pre-loved fabrics, our Social Textiles Group created these buntings as a waste-free alternative to disposable decorations, which can escape into the environment and pile up in landfill. These fabric decorations can be used over and over, and come with fantastic themes and patterns for all occassions.
 
The library is located at the EcoHub, with themed bunting available for loans up to two weeks. View the bunting catalogue online, and visit EcoHub Monday and Thursday from 9.00am and 3.00pm to view and borrow bunting.

Piney Lakes Community Garden

A community of like-minded people who grow edible plants, fruit and vegetables. The Piney Lakes Community Garden is run by members of the community. The garden enables great connections to be fostered, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It is open to anyone interested in sustainability and natural approaches to gardening. The spaces are subject to availability.
 
Open days are held on the 2nd and 4th  Sundays of the month from 9.00am to 11.00am. Please check their Facebook page to see when they sell FOGO-derived compost bags and when they accept polypropylene plant pots for recycling.

Walking Trails

There are several educational trails and self-guided tours of varying length and accessibility around Piney Lakes Reserve.

If you're interested in contributing to scientific research while on one of our walking trails, consider participating in a citizen science project as you walk. 

Melville Repair Lab

Melville Repair Lab is a free drop-in event where volunteers offer their time and skills to help community members fix broken belongings, saving them from landfill. Volunteers are skilled in repairing electrical appliances, textiles, household items, bicycles and more.
 

Volunteer at Piney Lakes 

We have a number of volunteer opportunities at Piney Lakes Environmental Education Centre for those who are interested in the environment, environmental sustainability and environmental education. Please see the below opportunities for more information and how to express your interest. 
If you are unable to volunteer with us you can also contribute to local environmental protection by participating in a citizen science project.
