Western Australia has some of the most incredible and diverse wildlife in the world, including the Ngoolarks (Carnaby’s cockatoos), which are endemic to the Southwest. As habitat destruction is driving our Ngoolarks towards extinction, it’s critical to look after their remaining food sources. The Cockatoo Rehabilitation site at Piney Lakes is being revegetated with the species to support Ngoolarks.

As young people, it’s up to us to protect our wild spaces for our future. This event will bring together youth (aged 16-25) to make a difference for our local environment in an inclusive and low barrier to entry setting by weeding the Cockatoo Rehabilitation site.

We’ll be guided by a facilitator from SERCUL who’ll share knowledge with the group about the area and how to weed effectively. After the event, there will be an informal picnic with catering for the group. Come along to one or all sessions!

The group will meet at the Eco Hub at Piney Lakes Reserve and walk together to the rehabilitation site. Parking is available by the City of Melville Eco Hub, accessed from the westbound lanes on Leach Hwy as well as street parking near Juett Park.

All volunteers must sign in and out - if you arrive late or leave early please make sure to find a staff member to sign in/out.
