On Saturday, 15 November, the internationally acclaimed Fremantle Biennale - Western Australia’s festival of contemporary art - comes to Melville for an unforgettable one-off evening of music and performance at Waylen Bay and Goolugatup Lowerlands, Applecross.

Vespers
The evening opens with Vespers at 6.15pm at Waylen Bay in Applecross, where you'll gather along the shoreline and witness a floating choir as couta boats assemble on the horizon, echoing live-mixed compositions across the water. This stunning performance captivated audiences in 2021 and now returns with brand-new technology, in an expansion of its original form.

Sanctuary Within
From 7.30pm, take a short walk up the path to the Goolugatup lowerlands for Sanctuary Within. Spread out a picnic blanket, grab a bite from local food providers, and experience a celebration of maloya - the sacred improvised music, dance and ritual form of Réunion Island. Maloya - once banned for its ties to enslaved peoples - returns here in force, with upbeat music and movement inviting you to dance and celebrate, giving space for the music of maloya to be alive, healing and resistance.

Perfect for all ages and anyone with a curious mind and a love of music and performance. Come be part of something out of the ordinary and unforgettable, and see your charming outdoor neighbourhood spaces in a whole new way.
