In this workshop, students will explore exciting percussion music and skills from around the world. Led by WAAPA Percussion Graduate and community musician, Nanna Faulkner, the session will include a wide range of rhythm games including body percussion, African marimba and drum circles. The workshop will culminate in a short exhilarating collaborative performance. No prior experience is necessary and all resources and instruments will be provided.
About Nanna Faulkner
Nanna Faulkner are professional musicians based in Perth. She studied Classical Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), with a focus on percussion and has been a member of one of Australia’s leading percussion ensembles Defying Gravity. Nanna’s Honours Thesis (First Class) at WAAPA, investigated the use drum-circles and music creativity workshops to enhance senses of self and community. Nanna has also taken part in workshops with world renowned drum circle facilitator, Arthur Hull. Nanna is a Percussion Tutor and has wide experience in community music settings. She has led workshops on Zimbabwean marimba music at the University of Western Australia and has a passion for choral music and for music from Iceland where she was born and spent her childhood.
