The City of Melville is proud to provide grant funding to its young residents to assist with travel, fees and costs associated with State or National Sport Representation or its Sporting Clubs who are participating at a National Event.

Who Can Apply?

This grant has been designed to cater to the following applicants:

  • Individual, young people aged 12-19 years (inclusive) living in the City of Melville for the last 12 months, who are seeking financial assistance with travel, fees and costs associated with State or National Sport Representation.
  • Sporting Club, clubs located in the City of Melville who have registered and been accepted to participate at a National event. A minimum of three Athletes must be representing the club in each registered team and aged 12-19 years (inclusive) at the time of the event.

Available Funding

Allocation of funding will be based on the Sporting Event and number of applicants, as follows:


  • Individual - up to $150
  • Group - up to $500

Sporting Club

  • Team - up to $500
  • Teams - up to the value of $1000

Please Note: A grant will not be given for everyday expenses including personal development, training, coaching and/or administration.

When Can I Apply?

Apply at any time.

Please note: Your application must be received prior to event start date. A grant will not be given retrospectively.

Individuals and Sporting Clubs who have been successful in obtaining a grant will be ineligible for further support until a period of two (2) years has passed.

Supporting Documents

A letter of support must be submitted with the application.

Individual applications shall be supported by either the relevant governing body or the State/Federal/Voluntary organisation supporting the activity. Written confirmation of the applicant’s selection or an invitation must include the applicant’s name, event name and dates.

Sporting Club applications must provide proof of event registration from the endorsing peak body or organiser. The club must also provide a list of the competing athletes and highlight if they are a City of Melville resident.

A lack of these documents will affect the result of your funding application.

Due to the continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and upcoming sporting events, payments for our Youth Sport Grants will be withheld until confirmation of the event proceeding. The City will review the application closer to the start date (at minimum two weeks prior) and notify the applicant accordingly.
