Grants of up to $1000 are available for people aged 16 to 25 through the Youth Project Fund pilot* program, for projects occurring within the City of Melville.

We’re looking to support inclusive programs, initiatives, events, and other activities which have a youth focus, support your wellbeing, helps you to make a meaningful difference or helps you communicate with your community

Need more information? View our Directions From Young People strategy and the FAQs below for tips and eligibility requirements.

Think your activity/program is better suited to our other grants? Check out the other grants we offer.

*This is a pilot program. Please be aware projects funded during this round may not be funded into the future.
Am I eligible to apply?
Email the Youth Team or give us a call if you would prefer to have a chat about your application and eligibility.

To be eligible, you must...
  • Be aged between 16 and 25 years
  • Live, work or study within the City of Melville (and be able to provide proof of this)
  • Your project must be delivered within the City of Melville
  • Use the grant funds for an activity/program taking place within six (6) months of receiving the grant
  • Use the grant funds for an activity/program which relates to one or more of the goals outlined in our Youth Strategy (see application form)
  • Be able to provide proof of the existence of the activity/program (see application form)
  • Submit a 'completed activity/project form' within two weeks of the activity/program being complete
  • Be able to continue communication with the City's Youth Team for the duration of your activity/program, and report any issues with them as soon as possible.
  • Note, you can only submit ONE application per round.

You should NOT apply if...
  • You have not met all of the above criteria
  • The activity/project is more suited toward other grant programs, such as Youth Sport Grant, Youth Sport Scholarship, KidSport and Activelink
  • The activity/program is a more structured sport activity (such as community sports/clubs and swimming lessons)
  • The funding is for school/TAFE/university fees, unless they are short courses or academic/leadership programs running for 12 weeks or less
  • The activity/program aims to earn you financial profit other than through the sale of your own goods or services. For example attending an event that may award you prize money is not suitable. We encourage applications that contribute to the sustainability of youth-led projects including through both the purchasing or the sale of goods and or services.
  • The activity/program has already started, been completed or the costs have already been billed/paid.

If you're still not sure give us a call! For more advice contact Youth Programming and Digital Engagement Facilitator, Sophie via email at sophie.minissale@melville.wa.gov.au or by phone at 08 9364 0359.
Do I need Public Liability Insurance (PLI)?
We reccomend that you consider PLI as part of your application. Certain venues in the City require you to have PLI (eg. community centres). Please try and seek this information before applying and factor it into your project plan and your budget. If you need help or some direction, get in touch with the Youth Team.
What happens if I don’t spend all the money/funds at the end of the activity/program?
Easy, speak with your Youth Team contact and just return any unused funds. Should this happen, we will provide you with the details on how to process that.
Need examples or ideas?
Use the below examples to inspire your ideas:

  • a one-off workshop (including your fee and materials)
  • a zine-making afternoon
  • a one-shot (one-off) Dungeons & Dragons campaign

  • an art exhibition
  • any opportunity for a specific group of young people (eg. LGBTIQA+, First Nations, Migrants, and/or Multicultural folks) to hang out and/or participate in an activity together.
  • Please note, if you are applying for a project involving a certain group, make sure you can demonstrate a significant connection to that specific group or community.

Think about what you want to do and how much it might cost. If in doubt or if you don't know where to start, get in touch with the Youth Team.
