Palmyra, Melville, Willagee Ward Candidates

Candidate Details

Ballot Paper Name: FITZGERALD, Tomas

Nominating for: Councillor for Palmyra - Melville - Willagee Ward

About:

For 10 years I've lived and raised my young family right here in Melville. As an active volunteer, I've seen first hand the incredible, vibrant community we've all helped create. Melville deserves a council that is absolutely committed to serving the residents of this amazing place we call home.

After university, I started out as an in house counsel at Austal Ships before moving to a teaching position in the Law School at Notre Dame. I know how important it is that our institutions be well governed. My career has given me the skills and experience necessary to help ensure Melville Council is transparent, democratic and accountable.

Voter turnout in postal elections is very low. If you're interested in an environmentally sustainable community, impeccable standards of governance and ensuring that when decisions are made we bring everyone along together then please, fill out your ballot and vote for me today.

Ballot Paper Name: PHELAN, Patricia

Nominating for: Councillor for Palmyra - Melville - Willagee Ward

About:

If re-elected, I will continue to push for essential community needs for the City as a whole and our ward in particular. Effective traffic management; upgrading sporting facilities; community safety and wellbeing; quality parks and tree canopy increases are my special focuses.

My community activities include being a member of: Neighbourhood Watch; Town Team; Melville Senior High School Board and P&C. I chair the Safer Melville Advisory Committee and Wandoo Prison Community Engagement Advisory Group.

In this council term I initiated the acquisition of mobile CCTV array designed for the investigation and deterrence of crime and worked closely with the Webber Reserve Clubs to gain funding for upgrading their out-dated facilities.

I have the energy, experience and commitment to represent you. With your vote I will continue the work to ensure quality of services is maintained and improvement of facilities continues within the balanced budget of a successful, innovative City.

Ballot Paper Name: HEWBER, Adam

Nominating for: Palmyra - Melville - Willagee Ward

About:

I have a disability and resided in Melville for 18 years. A broad range of life experience was acquired through helping run a family business, gaining a tertiary education and counselling qualifications and participating in 'Leaders for Tomorrow' and 'On Board with Me' training.

I am Director of People with Disability Australia, Committee Member of People with Disability WA, member of 'METRONET'  and 'Vulnerable Road Users Group', Melville Disability Advisory Panel, and volunteer at Melville Cares.

Representing Palmyra/Melville/Willagee I will embrace the challenge to reduce rates, increase community safety, protect open spaces, and maintain parks. My greatest concern is the lack of consultation with the community before planning new developments. Infill, height restrictions, and parking considerations must be discussed with the community before planning commences. The growing number of youths in our ward will require suitable services. Attention to climatic changes that may affect the community must also be considered.

Ballot Paper Name: ROBERTS, Ann

Nominating for: Councillor for Palmyra - Melville - Willagee Ward

About:

I would like to bring a fresh and unaffiliated presence to the City of Melville, objectively and keenly representing its ratepayers.

A passion for me is health and I believe that a community  should be supported by Council to have services, amenities and the environment in which to flourish and enjoy optimal wellbeing.

I am a registered nurse and nutritionist and have my own business. I grew up in the suburb of Melville attending both its primary and secondary schools. I graduated from Murdoch University, BA (public admin), and worked in Canberra as an administrator; lectured at TAFE, and; nursed in the
aged care sector.

I have lived back in Melville now for 14 years with my husband and teenage daughters. It is a great place to live, to raise a family and I want to give you a voice to keep it that way if not better.
