New Len Shearer changerooms help female athletes level up

2 September 2025

Construction of new clubrooms and changerooms at Len Shearer Reserve in Booragoon is now complete.

The City of Melville is kicking goals for female participation in sport following the $3.5 million construction of new clubrooms and changerooms at Len Shearer Reserve in Booragoon.

The new building includes a universal access toilet, umpires’ room and storage in line with the City’s goal of providing multipurpose facilities that encourage healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

The City received a combined $1.4 million from the State Government for the refurbishment through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund ($1.2 million) and the Legacy Grants for Women’s National Premier Clubs ($200,000).

Member for Bateman Kim Giddens, representing Minister for Sport and Recreation Rita Saffioti, City of Melville Elected Members and staff, and Murdoch University Melville Football Club and Melville Roar Athletics Club representatives gathered on Thursday, 28 August 2025 to celebrate the refurbishment.

A community celebration day is planned for later this year, where the wider public will be invited to see the refurbished facility.

The project is part of the City’s Active Reserve Infrastructure Strategy and enhances one of the City’s important local facilities to meet the needs of female athletes and support the growth of local sporting clubs.
