Every day, the Melville Community Bus travels more than just roads, it weaves connection, kindness, and independence into the lives of those who need it most.
For many of our residents, older adults, people living with disability, and those who simply find it hard to get around, life doesn’t move as easily as it once did. Something as simple as getting to the local shops, joining a craft group, or visiting a Community Centre becomes a challenge. That’s where our Melville Community Bus steps in, not just as a vehicle, but as a lifeline.
Driven by the compassion of our volunteer drivers, the bus helps users stay active, feel included, and most importantly, to stay connected. It’s more than just a ride. It’s a chance to laugh with friends, to share stories, to feel the warmth of being part of a community.
We’ve seen eyes light up as the bus arrives at a retirement village. Heard the heartfelt gratitude of someone who hasn’t been able to leave their home in weeks. Watched strangers become friends, sharing the simple joy of a morning outing.
But this special service is under pressure. In partnership with
Melville Cares, we’re urgently seeking Volunteer Drivers with a Light Rigid (LR) license to keep the wheels turning and the community connected.
This National Volunteer Week, we’re calling on people with a big heart and a little time to help us continue this incredible journey. If you or someone you know has a LR license and can help, you won’t just be driving a bus, you’ll be driving change.
Because sometimes, the smallest journeys mean the most. Click to view our video on the
