- City of Melville is working with more than 20 local governments from around the state to raise awareness about the importance of trees with the WA Tree Festival from 12 April to 10 May 2025.
- ‘Roots and Shoots’ celebrity gardener Sabrina Hahn will host a number of workshops across the festival’s four weeks.
High profile horticulturalist Sabrina Hahn will lead a range of workshops over the festival which highlights the City’s commitment to protecting and enhancing its urban forest as part of its natural environment.
Topics include living soils and how to improve garden microbiomes, learning which backyard trees are best for providing food for the endangered Black Cockatoo and tips on how gardens can remain productive in a warming, drying climate.
City of Melville Festival organiser and Urban Forest Education and Engagement Officer Amy Warner says Melville is a local government area known for our iconic streetscapes like the Jacaranda-lined avenues in Applecross.
“People come from all over Perth to enjoy City of Melville’s parklands and beautiful natural areas and established trees are an important part of their appeal,” says Ms Warner.
“The Festival runs annually and is aimed at increasing awareness of the many benefits of trees like their ability to keep our streets cooler; provide food sources and habitat for local fauna and improve human health too.”
