The City of Melville has received $75,000 through a Lotterywest grant to enhance and expand its arts and cultural offerings for the south metropolitan community.
The grant will support the staging of major events, including the popular Melville Summer Music series, currently underway, and Melville Midwinter, set for winter 2025.
These events will provide opportunities for the community to connect through diverse and meaningful arts experiences.
Specifically, the Lotterywest funding will help cover artist and production fees and infrastructure costs, enabling events to be held in unique, non-traditional performance spaces, like the scenic Atwell House & Gallery, which recently hosted the first two concerts of the 2024-2025 Melville Summer Music series.
“On behalf of the City of Melville, I extend a heartfelt thank you to Lotterywest and the State Government,” said City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair.
“This generous support has been, and will continue to be, instrumental in bringing events like Melville Summer Music and Melville Midwinter to life.
“It’s inspiring to see our community come together to enjoy live music and local talent in our beautiful parklands.”
The grant aligns with the City of Melville’s commitment to fostering community connection and facilitating vibrant activated local places through arts and cultural activities.
Commitment to arts and cultural events was also highlighted in the March 2024 endorsement of a new Library and Cultural Centre (LCC) – the largest and most significant cultural development project ever to be undertaken by the City of Melville.
The City of Melville is also proud to offer a wide range of free events throughout the year, many of which are perfect for families and people of all ages and varying interests.
This summer, the City has a packed schedule, with highlights including the Melville Art Awards exhibition, open at Wireless Hill Museum until Sunday, 1 December; the TILT exhibition opening at Goolugatup Heathcote on Saturday, 30 November; and Melville Summer Music concerts, running across local parklands until March 2025.
