Melville’s We Belong Plan recognised at the MACWA Awards

The City of Melville’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and supported has been highly commended.

The City of Melville’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and supported has been highly commended at the 2024 Most Accessible Communities in WA (MACWA) Awards.
 
The We Belong Plan, which is the City’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Plan, was among the projects recognised at the awards which were held on Thursday, 5 December during the week of the International Day of People with Disability on Tuesday, 3 December.
 
The City’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Plan – We Belong   has four key focus areas being; Leadership and Culture, Change Through Learning, Work Placement Opportunities and Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion.  
 
Spanning across four years, the plan has actions including policy review, development of learning programs, partnership building and celebration of significant annual days such as the International Day of People with Disability.
 
The MACWA Awards, run by the Regional Capitals Alliance Western Australia, recognise local governments for their outstanding commitment to accessibility and highlight the importance of building communities for all to enjoy.
 
The MACWA Awards recognise local governments for their commitment to accessibility across five categories with the City of Melville among seven local governments being highly commended for their projects.
 
The high commendation follows the City being named on Diversity Council Australia (DCA)'s annual list of Inclusive Employers for 2024-2025 in November, which also highlighted its commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and supported.

City of Melville Chief Executive Officer Gail Bowman said the City was proud to be highly commended for its We Belong Plan at the 2024 Most Accessible Communities in WA (MACWA) Awards.
