City of Melville rehabilitates local roads to keep road users safe

The City of Melville is undertaking road rehabilitation projects at night along Murdoch Drive in Winthrop and Bateman, and Riseley Street in Booragoon.

The City of Melville is undertaking road rehabilitation projects at night along Murdoch Drive in Winthrop and Bateman, and Riseley Street in Booragoon to improve the experience for road users.

The projects will take place in stages from mid-January to late February 2022 and will see the existing pavement upgraded, with stabilisation, profiling and asphalt works, as well as minor drainage and kerb upgrades.

City of Melville Mayor the Hon. George Gear JP said Traffic Managements Plans had been designed and approved for the projects, in line with Australian Standards, Austroads and Main Roads WA’s Code of Practice.

“We know that the community values sustainable and connected transport and so these upgrades will allow road users such as drivers and cyclists to safely travel along Murdoch Drive and Riseley Street,” said Mayor Gear.

“The Traffic Management Plans will ensure the safety of the workers and road users, while minimising the disruption to traffic and the inconvenience for directly impacted residents.

“We ask road users to keep in mind that the road work dates are subject to interruptions or changes due to inclement weather conditions, the progress of works or unforeseen circumstances.

“Due to the volume of traffic, available detours , and  proximity to Leach Highway, the majority of these works need to be undertaken at night.

“A Noise Management Plan has also been prepared and approved to ensure that the expected noise levels are constantly monitored and kept to a minimum, as far as practicable to ensure minimal impact on residents.”

Project dates:

  • Murdoch Drive, Winthrop and Bateman – Northbound lanes from Marsengo Road to Hawke Pass (Wednesday, 12 January to Saturday, 19 February 2022) and northbound lanes from Hawke Pass to Leach Highway (Thursday, 13 January to Saturday, 19 February)
  • Riseley Street, Booragoon – Southbound lanes from Karoonda Road to Leach Highway (Tuesday, 11 January to Friday, 18 February 2022)
