The City of Melville is encouraging the public to make use of its Friendly Neighbourhoods BBQ Trailer for social gatherings over the summer with a new addition making it even more enticing for the community to use.
The trailer is a free-of-charge service that families, individuals and community groups can hire to host BBQs for private gatherings or community-based events.
City of Melville Mayor the Hon. George Gear said the latest addition to the trailer was a beanbag toss game, after the community voted in favour of it through a recent Facebook poll.
“We gave the community four options to choose from including Giant Jenga, portable goals and totem soccer and beanbag toss was the clear favourite,” said Mayor Gear.
“I recently broke in the game with our Councillors to see how it will benefit the trailer and give the community a new fun and social activity.
“The trailer forms part of our organisational priorities by enhancing amenity and vibrancy of public spaces. It also assists us in supporting safer and healthier lifestyles by reconnecting us with our neighbours and encouraging outdoor activity.
“We’re encouraging the community to use the trailer as much as possible, and if it proves popular we will consider upgrading the trailer in the future.”
The trailer provides all the necessary items to cook for a large group of people, including a four burner BBQ, bins, esky, 15 litre water cooler, shade shelter, two trestle tables and other cooking accessories.
The re-launch of the BBQ Trailer has come following a July 2021 survey of 54 respondents of which nearly three quarters stated they had not used the trailer, mainly because they had not heard of the trailer before.
The BBQ Trailer is part of the City’s Friendly Neighbourhoods Program which also offers small grants and event resources to assist in connecting local communities.
