24 May 2021

The City of Melville is launching a new program to support local businesses across Melville.

The City of Melville is launching a new program of business-focused workshops, webinars and networking opportunities aiming to support local businesses across Melville.

Developed in partnership with the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC), the Your Business Our Future program was designed for small business owners with a strong focus on strategic planning, finance and marketing skills.

City of Melville Mayor the Hon. George Gear JP said digital and financial literacy were fundamental business skills that people often needed support with.

“Running a business means continuously learning and growing, so it’s always valuable to get advice and practical tips from the experts,” said Mayor Gear.

“Face to face workshops facilitated by Business Foundations are designed to help you plan for the financial year ahead, improve your presentation and networking skills, and successfully manage your cashflow.

“Once you know how to set up and run your business, you need to know how to promote it and our online webinars by Pete Walmsley from The Space Station will take you through building and positioning your brand, and connecting with customers.”

The first workshop, Strategic Planning for Financial Year 21/22, will run on Wednesday, 2 June, and six more events are scheduled throughout the year.

Mayor Gear said the City was committed to supporting local businesses achieve growth and prosperity.

“When our local businesses and economy prosper, our community prospers too,” said Mayor Gear.

“Economic development attracts investment and activity, creates employment opportunities and adds to active, vibrant and desirable places that contribute to the overall quality of living in the City of Melville.”

The City is also currently engaging with businesses to develop an Economic Development Strategy and is seeking feedback at www.melvillecity.com.au/eds.
