City of Melville Councillor June Barton OAM JP will serve as Deputy to Mayor George Gear JP for a one year term.

City of Melville Councillor June Barton OAM JP will serve as Deputy to Mayor George Gear JP for a one year term following her election at the October Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Currently serving as a Councillor for the Bicton - Attadale - Alfred Cove Ward, Cr Barton was elected to Deputy Mayor by her fellow elected members and has previously served as Mayor from 1989 to 1995.

Cr Barton is a member of the Western Australian Local Government (WALGA) South Metropolitan Zone and a Deputy Member of the Safer Melville Advisory Committee.

Cr Barton said she had held many roles in local government, both as an employee and as an Elected Member, but this was the first time she had been Deputy Mayor.

“This is particularly pleasing, because I have been elected by my colleagues on Council to assist the Mayor,” said Cr Barton.

“I have good working relationships with both Mayor George Gear and Chief Executive Officer Marten Tieleman, and look forward to working closely with them and Elected Members.”

When not attending Council or participating on various committees, Cr Barton can be found spending as much time as possible with her family and in particular with her grandchildren.

Outside of the current state of emergency, Cr Barton also enjoys travelling to interesting and unusual places, including observing total eclipses in the Libyan desert, on Easter Island and the Great Barrier Reef.

She looks forward to the opportunity to travel and adventure again in the future.

Cr Barton’s current term of office is until 2021.
