The City of Melville’s annual Art Awards exhibition will allow the public to see the work of more than 260 artists in one place.
The 2020 exhibition will take place from Saturday, 10 October to Sunday, 18 October, opening from 10.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and 10.00am to 4.00pm on weekends at the City of Melville Civic Centre.
City of Melville Mayor the Hon. George Gear JP said the awards were an opportunity to support local artists.
“The City’s annual art exhibition is a chance for the community to view work from emerging artists and students to seasoned exhibitors,” said Mayor Gear.
“The City is proud to be able to provide a platform for artists to share their work and for the community to enjoy the artwork and even purchase them.
“We appreciate the support of St John of God Murdoch Hospital, Westfield Booragoon and Community News.”
There are several new categories for the exhibition, which is in its 44th year, including the Digital and New Media Award and the Printmaking and Drawing Awards, while the former Painting Awards have been divided into three categories: Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour.
A prize pool of $20,000 includes $5,000 for the Overall Award, $1,000 for the other 9 categories and Highly Commended prizes of $500 for each of them.
The judges for this year’s awards are Fremantle Arts Centre Curator Erin Coates, Goolugatup Heathcote Cultural Precinct Assistant Curator Guy Louden and City of Melville Creative Producer Pete Stone.
Also taking place over two weekends during the exhibition is Open Studios 2020, which gives the community a unique perspective into the lives of local artists and creatives.
On Saturday, 10 October and Sunday, 11 October there will be 10 locations where the community can meet artists while the second weekend on Saturday, 17 October and Sunday, 18 October will feature 12 locations.
