Enjoy the Show at Wireless Hill

18 October 2019

Wireless Hill Museum will host two free events to bring industry experts and the wider community together.

To celebrate 20th century telecommunications, Wireless Hill Museum will host a free a show and tell and screening of a classic silent film outdoors.

The Show and Tell Vintage Technology Information Day is run in conjunction with Pictures in Motion Museum of Film and Television, as part of the public program of the Picture Palaces of Perth exhibition on show at Wireless Hill Museum until Sunday 24 November 2019.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the Show and Tell Vintage Technology Information Day is an opportunity for the community to meet the experts and get information on objects they have stored away in their shed and don’t know what to do with.

“From old radios, movie cameras and gramophones to VHF sets and vintage telephones, there will be an expert on hand to identify your object, give you historical information, show you how to look after it, and perhaps even show you how to use it,”

“We are working with VHF Amateur Radio Group, Pictures in Motion Museum of Film and Television, the Vintage Wireless and Gramophone club of WA, and the Historical Telephone Society of WA to host diverse programs which speak to the heritage of the site and foster the understanding of museum collections and their value to the community.”

“In addition to the Show and Tell Vintage Technology Information Day, we also invite the community to our free outdoor cinema night, screening the silent film The Thief of Bagdad.”

“Bring your favourite movie nibbles, rugs and beanbags and settle in for a picturesque sunset at Wireless Hill Park to enjoy this vintage classic silent film!”

The 2011 Wireless Hill Interpretation Plan identified a vision for the site which stated its unique ability to convey the significance of many aspects of natural heritage, indigenous heritage and wireless technological heritage – to a diverse audience ranging from children to the elderly, from those looking for a heritage experience to those who simply ‘stumble across it’.
