Call to Nominate Outstanding Citizens

1 August 2018

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Mayor's Citizenship Awards and 2019 Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.

Nominations are now open for the City of Melville’s 2018 Mayor's Valued Citizen, Mayor’s Youth Citizenship and Mayor’s Community Champion Awards, as well as the 2019 Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.

Anyone can be nominated for an Australia Day Active Citizenship Award. Volunteers who have given 10 years or more service to one organisation can be nominated for a Mayor’s Valued Citizenship Award and students who have volunteered for more than a year can be nominated for a Mayor’s Youth Citizenship Award.

The City of Melville has introduced a new Mayor’s Award this year, the Community Champions Award, which recognises outstanding volunteers who have made a significant contribution to their organisation or community through volunteering.

City of Melville Acting Mayor Nicole Robins said these awards give the community the opportunity to recognise and thank those who make a significant contribution to their local neighbourhoods.

“These awards acknowledge the tireless commitment of volunteers who give their time selflessly for the benefit of others. They are a wonderful opportunity for us to thank those individuals and recognise their significant value in our community,” said Acting Mayor Robins.

“If you know someone who has made a significant contribution to the community through volunteering, we ask you to nominate them for an Australia Day Active Citizenship Award or encourage the Volunteer Manager of their organisation or school principal to nominate them for a Mayor’s Award.”

Nominations for the Mayor’s Awards can be made by the President or Volunteer Manager of the organisation the nominee volunteers for, with the exception of the Youth Citizenship Award, which must be made by the student’s principal. Anyone can nominate or be nominated for an Australia Day Active Citizenship Award.

Recipients of the Mayor's Awards will be invited to a volunteer recognition event at Wireless Hill Park on Friday, 9 November 2018 to receive their award, while recipients of the Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards will be officially recognised at the Australia Day Active Citizenship Breakfast Ceremony on Saturday, 26 January 2019.

For more information or to nominate an outstanding citizen in your community for any of these awards, visit www.melvillecity.com.au/nominatenow before Friday, 19 October 2018.
