The City of Melville is encouraging the community to get involved in their annual Friendly Neighbour Awards by voting for who they think should receive one of the coveted prizes.
This follows a two-week nomination period where the community were asked to share stories of their great neighbours to enter them in the Awards. Nominations were open from Monday, 26 March 2018 and closed on Monday, 16 April 2018.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the community has really responded to the Awards with the sheer number of nominations, reflecting that community spirit is alive and strong throughout the City.
“This year we received 50 nominations, which is the highest number we’ve had since we introduced the awards in 2015,” Mayor Aubrey said.
“It was heart-warming to read the lovely stories of neighbours that go above and beyond to make their communities a safer and friendlier place to live.
“We want to keep this momentum going so I strongly encourage everyone to jump online, read the nominations and tell us who you think should be awarded a Friendly Neighbour Award for 2018.”
Voting for the Friendly Neighbour Awards opens on Wednesday, 18 April 2018 and closes Wednesday, 2 May 2018. Votes can be cast at www.melvilletalks.com.au/friendlyneighbours.
The top five nominations as voted by the community will receive a City of Melville Friendly Neighbour Award and a $100 gift voucher.
The City of Melville also offers Friendly Neighbourhood Grants of up to $250 to help communities host an event in their neighbourhood. Residents can also hire the City’s free Community Trailer which makes cooking a BBQ for a large group easy.
