The City of Melville has approved a plan (called a ‘structure plan’) for the Riseley Centre, which is located around the intersection of Riseley Street and Canning Highway in Ardross and Applecross.
A key objective of the City’s Local Planning Strategy is to concentrate population growth and development in “activity centres” and along transport corridors. This strategy limits the need to change suburban residential areas. The Riseley Centre was identified as an important town centre for the area.
The purpose of the Riseley Centre Structure Plan is to set out a clear vision and town planning requirements for the future development of the Riseley Activity Centre.
The goal is to create a vibrant and sustainable centre that will be a great place to live, work, socialise and shop.
Structure plans inform the future local planning framework for an area and provide direction on matters such as: zoning, building form and height; land use, access and transport. A structure plan is an important document that will guide the future redevelopment of the area. The structure plan guides what landowners can and can’t do if or when they want to develop their property.
The structure plan was prepared and informed by community feedback and relevant town planning requirements.
You can also view a copy of the approved plan by visiting the Planning Counter at City of Melville Civic Centre, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon.
There are a range of implementation actions recommended to make the Riseley Centre a better place, including but not limited to:
Landowners and developers can redevelop their properties when they wish to in accordance with the requirements of the structure plan
One of the high priority recommended actions is to prepare a detailed Parking Management Plan to investigate and address car parking issues in the centre
The structure plan provides recommendations on future upgrades to streetscapes and public spaces improvements, which can be considered in future budget and project discussions.
