Public Open Space on Barrisdale

Help shape the new public open space on Barrisdale.

Last Updated: 15 June 2022 Follow Engagement

The City is developing a concept plan for the new public open space on Barrisdale. The vacant land adjacent to Mount Pleasant Bowling Club (MPBC), which used to form part of the MPBC lease area, was recently re-zoned to Public Open Space. This has provided an opportunity to create a multi-generational public open space for the local area.

This engagement follows a Council decision in December 2020 to create a multi-generational public open space that will enhance the area and the adjacent Mount Pleasant Bowling Club

About the site

The vacant land is located on the corner of Barrisdale and Bedford Road, Mount Pleasant and is adjacent to the Mount Pleasant Bowling Club. It is approximately 6,000 square metres in size and includes a fenced sump, existing on-street car parking, some mature trees, an unused bowling green and un-irrigated lawn.

Site Challenges
  • The existing sump on the site must remain in its current location and with existing fence.
  • The bowling club leased area, adjacent to the site, must remain fully fenced.
The design of the park extension needs to be in keeping with the features of a ‘local park’.

Draft Concept Design

The draft concept was developed through discussions with Mount Pleasant Bowling Club and Melville Cares. The draft concept plan includes, shade shelters and seating, flexibility and mobility equipment, multipurpose tables for games and trees and planting, bin and bike rails.
