See what the community and stakeholders have shared, in our online community survey, place interviews and workshops, and find out what's happening next.
Before we break for the holidays we want to send a heartfelt thank you to all our community members and stakeholders who continue to show interest in City of Melville’s social research and place planning At Canning Bridge.
We have engaged with over 450 people through our online community survey, place interviews or attendance at one of the recent stakeholder workshops.
As we reflect on the work to date we want to share some of the messages, feedback and themes we have heard through these preliminary conversations:
- The Canning Bridge area is best known for its active hospitality scene with many locals and visitors coming into the area to sample delights from the restaurants, cafes and pubs. Into the future the majority of community members would like to see this offering increase and diversify to include more small bars and family establishments.
- Stakeholders and the surrounding community told us that, as a priority, they would like to see solutions realised to mitigate traffic congestion and the lack of parking in the immediate area.
- The community recognised the need to make the pedestrian experience in and around the Canning Bridge area more comfortable for a range of ages and abilities, including providing more shade, river-side seating, refreshed landscaping and spaces for people to gather outside. When coming together and connecting with others people nominated popular events such as markets, festivals, outdoor movies and outdoor recreation classes.
- The majority of community members agreed that more can be done to enhance and enliven the area at Canning Bridge with a range of initiatives from small community-run events to large strategic City led programming.
There is still much work for our project team to do to engage the surrounding local community, capture your thoughts and expand our reach to the wider community.
We are excited to confirm that the City will be hosting a Community Information Day on Friday 21 February to give you an update on the project and to continue to collect your ideas and aspirations for the precinct. We encourage everyone young and old to attend, watch this space for more information!
