Last Updated: 14 March 2025 Follow Engagement

The playground at John O’Sullivan Park in Palmyra is due for renewal. To ensure the new playground meets local needs, we asked you to help choose the best design. Engaging with the community is key to building a sense of pride and ownership - your input will help us create a playground everyone can enjoy and feel connected to.

Four fantastic playground designs each offer unique features. Thank you for your help deciding the best playground for our community.

Design options

Through a collaborative process, we engaged with residents and park users to design a playground that meets their needs and sparks joy. With four fantastic options to choose from, the community played a key role in shaping a vibrant, fun-filled space for everyone to enjoy.

After an enthusiastic response, Option 4 emerged as the preferred design, receiving 31.45% of the votes.

What is park hierarchy?
The hierarchy of parks within the City is pocket, local, neighbourhood and district, and reflects state documentation/strategies.

This hierarchy is based on the number of anticipated visitors and the distance they are drawn from to attend the space:
  • District parks - people will be drawn from over two kilometres
  • Neighbourhood parks - residents from 800 metres
  • Local parks - residents from approximately 400 metres
  • Pocket parks are the incidental green spaces around the City.

The amount of facilities/infrastructure provided on each space reflects the size and use of the reserve, travel distance and therefore, the anticipated duration of time spent on-site. The distribution of district, neighbourhood and local parks allows us to have a balanced level of the quality of space across the City.

John O’Sullivan Park is classified as a local park
Why did we engage the community?
