The City of Melville is at the forefront of sustainable waste management services and will be introducing a 3-bin food organics and garden organics (FOGO) system in July 2019 through its partnership with the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC). The City of Melville is one of the few metropolitan local governments that has achieved and exceeded the WA Governments target for waste diversion from landfill over the last decade or more.
As the Manager Resource Recovery and Waste, you will play a lead role in the roll out of the new waste system and use your developed waste management business expertise to further support a highly efficient and cost effective waste service to achieve and deliver the City’s strategic waste management outcomes. Looking forward, the role will develop service arrangements around problematic and emerging waste streams (e.g. household hazardous wastes, e-waste, verge collections) as well as championing initiatives to establish community recycling centres, hubs and other resource recovery services.
Highly developed and demonstrated interpersonal and management skills will not only be critical in getting the best out of your people and the numerous contractors engaged to deliver waste management services on behalf of the City, but will also be crucial in engaging with community and establishing strong working arrangements with partner organisations such as the SMRC and participant councils.
